Brekafast at hotel. After breakfast, depart for trip to Delos. Meet your guide at 9am at hotel.

A thirty minutes trip by boat brings you to the small neighbor island of Delos one of the biggest and most important archaeological sites of Europe. In the mythology Delos used to be the birthplace of the ancient gods Apollo and Artemis and their temples have always been the centre of the Holy Island. Like the Holy Island. Like on Mykonos first settlements on Delos have been found from around 3,000 BC by the Karers from Asia. The extraordinary guided tour in English through the 4-5,000 years old temple ruins and a visit to the museum of Delos will bring you closer to the understanding of the high-developed culture and daily life of ancient Greece. Despite its minute size, it played an important role  in antiquity for both commercial and religious reasons. The sanctuary to Apollo attracted pilgrims and riches. Together with the shrine at Delphi, it was the most important in the Greek world. Nowadays Delos is a desolate wind-swept sea-girt place. A pilgrimage for tourists where the ruins are still imbued with a sense of mystic fervour and nostalgia. The modern quay leads directly to the entrance to the archaeological site. We shall walk into the heart of the sanctuary where you can see the Temples of Apollo, monuments famous for their history and architectural style, the dried lake with the palm tree, and the unique marble lions of Delos. After a rest stop we shall visit the museum and continue towards the terrace of the foreign gods and the theatre area. The view of the archipelago from up there is unforgettable. We shall visit the famous Hellenistic mansions of Delos with their superb mosaics decorating the floors and walls. Return to the harbor area of the island of Delos and by the local boat return to Mykonos harbor.

Explore on your own the city of Chania. We believe that it is not worth to take a guide for a tour in the city. Viki will tell you exactly where to go and you will definitely enjoy your walk in the old city of Chania through the narrow lanes.

In the afternoon we suggest the very pleasant walk not far from the city of Chania, discovering the rich history of the monasteries in the Peninsula of Chania by following the traces of Saint John the hermit.  Starting form the Monastery of Gouverneto, we shall walk to the deserted monastery Katholiko, following a well-maintained rocky footpath that passes through the cave of our Lady Arkoudiotissa. At cave’s entrance is a small chapel dedicated to Virgin Mary and a big, bear-shaped stalagmite in its center. From the cave we continue on the ancient path that originally traced by Saint John the hermit, who in the eleventh century, founded what is considered to be the island’s earliest monastery, Moni Katholikou. From monastery’s bridge – courtyard, we shall return back to the car by retracing our steps.

(1½ hrs walk) Today your guide will transfer you to Sougia for a cultural walk through the beautiful gorge of Selinou, thick with brilliant pink oleanders and carob trees, to the ancient city of Lissos. For the ancient city of Lissos, the walk is 1h30mins. I believe that you will manage with the kids as it is not that far and not steep (except a 100 meters uphill part through a small forest of pine-trees) . Lissos was an important center of hydrotherapy in ancient years, which flourished in the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine era. Here you will visit a well-preserved temple with mosaic floor dedicated to the God of medicine Asklipios and you will also visit two Byzantine churches and the Roman tombs.

Lissos also have a small pebble beach with crystal clear water that you will enjoy the swim. To return back to Sougia in order not to walk back, we can arrange a fishing boat (Captain George) to pick up you from Lissos.

Client feedback

Dear Sophia,

Our family would like to thank you for your excellent help in planning our recent vacation trip to Greece.  We loved Greece and everything about the trip was wonderful including the people of Greece, the places we visited, and last but not least, the amazing Greek food we couldn’t get enough of!

Our family has traveled throughout the world and quite frankly our trip to Greece was one of the best vacations we have ever experienced.   The special care to ensure our accommodations were “just right” and also the dedication and patience you took to plan the trip were admirable.   You were thoroughly attuned to our special needs especially since we were traveling with children and your knowledge of Greece and islands really was an enormous help to us as we began to plan and finalize this vacation.  We loved the tours you secured for us throughout our Greece adventure and are still talking about the beautiful scenery and historical sites we saw during our visit to this amazing country.

We are so fortunate to have worked with you and consider you a gracious and extremely proficient travel professional.

Our family would recommend your services to anyone who is seeking travel planning.  You are the best Sophia!

Sincerely yours, The Foster-Chan family
