Located just 10 minutes away from Heidelberg, charming Scwetzingen is a true jewel of the area. The relaxed, easy going atmosphere with lots of outdoor cafes will Transport you to a world of finesse and high style that remains down to earth and family friendly.
It is just a short and pleasant stroll from the delightful main Street in Sceetzingen to the attractive Castle, the chosen Summer residence of the local rulers. The Castle and Gardens is truly one of the lesser known jewels of the area. The wonderful and expansive garden is an inspiration all year round. It's huge with many fascinating Temples, including the only remaining 'Garden Mosque' in the whole of Europe, ornate gardens, statues, alleyways, a large orangerie, lakes and even a replica Roman viaduct to enjoy.
One can also visit the sumptuous Rococo theatre, where the first German operas were performed and where a young Mozart starred.
Interesting enough that it is the same distance from Frankfurt airport as Frankfurt. For something different, pleasant rebuilt town with neoclassical architecture, thermal and famous casino linked to Dostoevsky debt which was a prerequisite to his masterpiece, "The Gambler", it is a good day or more visit from Frankfurt city or airport.
