Jewish Itineraries in Italy

A PANORAMA OF JEWISH ART AND TRADITION.

FROM ROME TO FLORENCE

BACKGROUND: JEWISH ART AND CULTURE

Jews have lived in Italy for the last 2000 years—longer than in any country outside of Israel.  Although always a small community (the Jewish population in Italy today is estimated at around 35,000), they have over the years developed an incredibly rich tradition, including religious art objects and books, and wonderfully preserved synagogues—in amazingly disparate parts of Italy.  Sophisticated Italy is pleased to present this tour,,on the Jewish tradition in Rome and Tuscany.  While it focuses on Jewish culture and history in these areas it does not overlook the other art highlights in this heartland of Italian art and culture.  The group will be small (from 14-20 people).   It will be led by art historians specialized in Italian and Italian Jewish art and culture. Please note that this is not a kosher tour although non- kosher foods will not be included on the menus.
