Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive Frankfort /
Wiesbaden
Tour begins: Frankfort’s Rhein-Main Airport, one
hour after the arrival of our selected flight(s). Welcome to Germany.
Meet the traveling companions with whom you will share
Romantic Germany with at a welcome
reception and dinner this evening.

Day 2 – Cruise Along the
River Rhine
Your Germany tour begins in the fabled Rhine River Valley. Explore Rüdesheim and
enjoy a tasting of the local wines. Cruise down the Rhine to discover the legend
of the Lorelei before disembarking at Boppard and returning to Weisbaden.

Day 3 – Old-Fashioned
Heidelberg to the Black Forest
The beautiful city of Heidelberg boasts both Germany’s oldest university and a
splendid medieval castle. Dine in an old mill beside a romantic brook in the
Black Forest this evening.

Day 4 – Take the Cure at
Baden-Baden
Sometimes referred to as the gateway to the Black Forest, Baden-Baden is best
known for its spas and therapeutic waters. Enjoy a walking tour before exploring
more of this premier spa resort town on your own.

Day 5 – Lakeside Magic En
Route to Bavaria
Travel along the Black Forest High Road, one of the most scenic routes on any
Germany tour. Enjoy lunch on the shores of Lake Constance, the largest lake in
Germany, before continuing on through Friedrichshafen en route to Hohenschwangau.

Day 6 – Behold a
Fairy-tale Castle
A visit to Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig’s fanciful, fairy-tale castle, is an
essential part of every Germany tour. Visit charming Oberammergau on the way to
Munich, the capital of Bavaria.

Day 7 – Historic Treasures
of Munich
The Residenz, winter palace of early royalty, the old town hall, and the elegant
Maximilianstrasse are included on our sightseeing tour today. See many treasures
of European art at the Alte Pinkaothek, known for its fine collections. Journey
to poignant Dachau or explore more of Munich on your own this afternoon.

Day 8 – Drive the Romantic
Road
Travel along the famous Romantic Road to historic, charming Rothenburg. A visit
to the famous wooden alter carved by Tilmann Riemenschneider is a highlight
during this Germany tour.

Day 9 – Inspiration of the
Ages in Weimar
Weimar is the birthplace of modern architecture following the famous Bauhaus
movement. Famous residents of Weimar have included Wolfgang von Goethe, Franz
Liszt and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Day 10 – Discover the
Artistry of Porcelain
Meissen is known the world over for its fine porcelain; a visit to the porcelain
factory reveals how it is made. The city of Dresden is home to exquisite
architecture and many artistic treasures.

Day 11 – Memorable Sights
of Dresden
During a city sightseeing tour, visit the ruins of Franuenkriche. One of the
major churches of the German Protestant tradition, it was destroyed by bombs
during World War II but reconstruction efforts are on-going. At the old royal
stables, see the Procession of the Princes
before continuing on to the neo-Renaissance Semperoper (opera house) and the
baroque Zwinger, home to five museums.

Day 12 Milestone of World
War II and Intriguing Berlin
Truman, Churchill, and Stalin signed the Potsdam Treaty at the Cecilienhof
Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue on to Berlin through Germany’s
Brandenburg lake district, crossing Glienicke Bridge – famous as the place where
spies were exchanged during the Cold War.

Day 13 – Where East Once
Met West
The history of this once-divided city is intriguing on many levels. Experience
Berlin on a sightseeing tour including a lot of the city’s most famous
landmarks. Although many historic buildings were destroyed during World War II,
they have been restored or reconstructed. The Cold War era reveals itself at the
Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie. Explore some of Berlin’s world-class
museums at your leisure. Say Auf Wiedersehen to Germany at a farewell dinner.

Day 14 – Journey Home

Need to Know
Tour prices are per person in U.S. dollars.
All accommodations, entertainment, special dinners, motor coach, rail
transportation, luggage handling, admissions, services of Tauck Directors, train
crew and drivers are included.
Hotel Accommodations – Tauck’s price
includes all hotel accommodations with private baths. The Tauck standard is to
provide the best available hotels without sacrificing value. Although the
quality of accommodations may differ from place to place, this standard remains
uncompromised. Two-bedded rooms are reserved in most hotels. Triples are
two-bedded rooms plus a rollaway cot and are not recommended for comfort.
Single Hotel Accommodations – Since hotel
rates are per room, the tour price for rooms occupied by one person is higher
than those where two or more persons share the cost of a room. In Europe, most
single rooms are smaller than double rooms and have only one bed.
Meals – Meals are included as specified
in the itinerary. Meal codes are: B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner.
Tauck Director – Each tour is conducted
by a Tauck Director who remains with the group throughout the duration. Your
Tauck Director is a professional, fully trained employee of Tauck.
Gratuities for luggage handling, bellmen,
doormen, dining room servers, housekeepers, local guides, ship and train crew
are included.
No Options Sold – Tauck’s price includes
special dinners, entertainment, sightseeing and most activities. Tauck Directors
sometimes assist with information on free-time activities, based on honest
opinion and guidance, but will not sell you anything. This means better value
and a more relaxed, pleasant experience for you.
Airfare to the tour departure point and from the
tour ending point is not included.
Airfare may be purchased from Tauck for travel originating in the United States.
Hotel Rooms Before & After Tours – Due to
time schedules and the possibility of flight delays, many guests prefer to make
hotel arrangements for the night preceding their tour. As a service, Tauck will
make reservations before or after your tour. Rooms are reserved on a
space-available basis and must be booked through Tauck to qualify for Tauck’s
special rates. Hotel room charges will be added to the tour cost. Note: In most
cases, airport transfers are not included for these bookings. Beginning any
journey feeling well rested adds immeasurably to the enjoyment of the trip. We
recommend that you arrive in Frankfort the day before your tour begins; we will
be happy to make such hotel reservations for you.
Tauck Director and Driver Gratuities –
The customary gratuity to the Tauck Director and driver is not included. Such
gratuities should be extended on a voluntary, individual basis and not as a
group.
Personal Expenses such as phone calls,
room service, alcoholic and bar beverages, laundry, airline excess luggage
charges, visa fees and other optional incidental extras are not included and may
be significant.
Luggage Responsibility – Although every
effort is made to handle guests’ luggage carefully, we cannot be responsible,
assume liability or accept claims for loss or damage to luggage and personal
effects due to breakage, theft, or fair wear and tear through hotel, airline and
group carrier handling. It is important that you have adequate insurance. Refer
to Tauck’s “Guest Protection.”
