Aiming to create a comfortable family atmosphere, the owners restored this
small castle to become a tiny hotel named "Castelletto di Montebenichi".
This enchanting little hotel, in hte center of medieval hamlet that was a
fortress destroyed by the Sienese in the 15th century, has been created in
a 13th century house. Located high above a valley in Tuscany, just 28 km
form Siena, Montebenichi is only a few km from the train station, offering
convenient transportation to Florence. Comprised of private houses and one small restaurant, this quiet village is made entirely of stone. The Castelletto opened as a hotel in 1998 and features rooms with original frescoes, a loggia where a bountiful breakfast is served, and sitting rooms filled with valuable antiques. Each room has a name, each has antique furnishings, and each is different in layout and decor. Rooms have no air conditioning. All are equpped with complimentary minibar, in-room safes and hair dryers. In this family atmosphere guests are free to help themselves to the breakfast "buffet", to the room's minibar and to the drinks at the bar corner, with no extra charge. There is no restaurant, but this represents an opportunity to discover in the nearby villages small "trattorie" offering genuine tuscan cuisine and local wine. Even though its origin dates back to the XIII century, the "Castelletto" is still fully immersed in the day life of the small village of Montebenichi. The village sits atop a hill at 510 m above sea level and is surrounded by a beautiful and unspoiled natural environment, in the very heart of Tuscany, at the south-eastern border of the Chianti. It dominates a valley called Valdambra, that has preserved the integrity and beauty of its territory. It is a peaceful and productive landscape with woods, vineyards, olive trees and active wildlife, scattered with villages and castles, and at every turn a splendid panoramic view. |
