Hotel Le Sirenuse, 5*, Positano, Italy

Le Sirenuse is an 18th century palazzo, originally the summer home of the Marchesi Sersale. During World War II the family moved form Naples to Positano to avoid the air bombings. As a result they spent four years in Positano and gradually fell in Love with the village. In 1951 when the war ended they decided to convert their summer house into the small luxury Hotel it is today, decorating it with 18 C furniture and objects d’art.

John Steinbeck was here for the first time in 1953, describing the Hotel as a first class hotel, spotless and cool. At that time the Hotel was at the beginning of its life. Since then the family have continued to renovate and improve it every year, always trying to retain its character. Le Sirenuse is still owned and run by the same family which has concentrated on achieving the highest standard of Luxury for guests while maintaining the character and features of a family home. In the 70s Le Sirenuse joined "The Leading Hotels of the World" and have been a proud member ever since.

All rooms and the reception area are still furnished, wherever possible, as a big and comfortable private home where the old blends with the new to combine the tradition and the way of life of yesterday with the comforts of today.

Le Sirenuse consists of 60 different rooms individually decorated with antiques and 1 large Presidential Suite. Almost all bedrooms open on to the sea and face the island of the Galli, the mythical abode of the Sirens, from which the name of the Hotel is derived. Some Jacuzzis have a double width.

Le Sirenuse is located in the heart of Positano. Some public transports are connected directly from the hotel to other places to visit. The big plus of this hotel is it's location, just steps from town with its myriad clothng and ceramic shops, cafes and restaurants. The hotel keeps a powerboat, used for excursions with hotel guests.

Le Sirenuse was featured in the 1994 film "Only you" starrng Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey, Jr. and the hotel's outstanding Reception Manager, Mr. Domenico Pane, played himself, something he has been doing quite exceptionally at Le Sirenuse for the past 37 year.
