There was a very good reason why the great and the grand built their villas at Pallanza two centuries ago. It stands on a promontory that juts out into Lake Maggiore where the view of the lake, the mountains and the Borromean Islands is enough to make you gasp! And when you catch your breath, the scent of myriad flowers fresh on the breeze will amaze you. Such is the home of the Grand Hotel Majestic basking in a benign micro climate unique to the area. The hotel was built in 1870 in the idiom of Belle Époque and designed to do justice to that mesmerising panorama. Almost every room, every terrace and balcony, the American Bar, the restaurant, the pool and the perfect English garden gets a view of the water. As you enter the lobby, there it is again framed in giant picture windows! You reach the recently renovated, lavishly furnished bedrooms via balconies that rise up from the foyer tier upon tier of colonnades.
Surrounded by a flower-scented English-style garden, the hotel boasts a private waterfront with its own dock and small, lovely beach which is only a stone's throw from the tiny, picturesque island of San Giovanni, favorite haunt of the composer Arturo Toscanini and summer residence of the noble Borromeo family. The hotel is located on the west shore of the lake and has recently been completely refurbished by the family who owns it. Only moments from the town of Pallanza, one of the two flower capitals of hte lake, the hotel is an oasis of peace and tranquility, yet its location permits easy access by car or boat t oa myriad of activities.
Hotel is scheduled to reopen in April 2003 as a 4* superior hotel with fully equipped doubles and junior suites. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sauna, tennis courts, restaurant, pool bar, 24 hour concierge service. A state of the art spa is planned for 2004.
