Wine tasting in Spain Rioja Region

Tours

Wine tours are a special experience. On our wine tours you'll enjoy special visits to cutting-edge wineries, have private tastings at top cellars, you'll discover great wines.
You'll meet the winemakers and the owners of great chateaux, enjoy gourmet food and have superb tastings. (Things like that do not happen if you just turn up at a chateau or winery).
Most of the visits we do, are to cellars that usually do not host tourists, thus the number of visitors are small.

Wine day in Haro - Rioja

Wine Tasting and Gastronomy Weekend in La Rioja

Wine Weekend in Haro

La Rioja Alavesa

The thirteen thousand hectares of La Rioja Alavesa form one of the more prestigious wine-producing regions of the world. Its situation and its landscape make it a perfect place for the culture of the grapevine. The vast areas of vineyard at the shore of the Ebro, are protected by mounts of the Cantabria mountain range, forming therefore a peculiar Mediterranean microclimate with an Atlantic influence.

This microclimate, along with the type of ground, the structure of staggered slopes, the location and the traditional grape harvest, give the wines of La Rioja Alavesa their own personality, with a recognized guarantee of origin. The regulating council allows seven varieties of grape: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo for red wine and Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía in white wines, though Tempranillo is the most popular variety. The elaboration is by the traditional method, known technically as carbonic maceration.

he cultural heritage of the region also deserves a special mention: from dolmens, traces of prehistoric cultures, to gothic and baroque churches or walled medieval towns. Also, the Basque gastronomy so recognized internationally has singularities in Álava: the season products, the meats and vegetables of an inland gastronomy, or the abundant use of garden products.

Wine day in Haro - Rioja

The efforts for promoting Rioja wine, which have been done from Haro, started a long time ago. As well as champagne had its clergyman Don Perignon, and Bordeaux had its abbot Rozier, in Haro’s wine was significant another clergyman, Quintano de La Bastida. But what it has characterized Haro as Rioja capital are natural conditions, whose first expression is its wines and men who are oriented to a total enological operation, producing grapes, making wine, maturing and bottling.

Wine Tasting and Gastronomy Weekend in La Rioja

Like wine, friendship requires a maturation process, constant care and attention. We invite you to join us on a walk through our wineries in La Rioja, where you will be able to discover some of the secrets of our wines. We will also present you the Old Winery Don Cosme Palacio, our unique hotel located in Laguardia, an essential stop in the Wine Route.

To speak of Laguardia is to speak of wine. The colour of its landscapes, its history and the life of its people keep a very close relationship with it; a proof of this is its wine production (about  12 million litres yearly).
A group of factors gather in La Rioja Alavesa, which make its wines well known all over the world. These factors are its geographic location, its climate, its land and its types of grapes.
The grapevine is a plant that adapts itself to the soil and climate of the area in a perfect way. Sudden changes in the temperature, moderate rainfall, argillo-calcareous soil  (cambisol cálcico)  and its southern location ('carasol') result in very high quality wine, which is supported by the oldest appellation d’origine in Spain.
