02 Overnights The Royal Livingstone Hotel in a standard
double/single room on a bed and breakfast basis
Architecturally, the buildings take their cue from African
resonances. The Royal Livingston Hotel Victoria Falls stretches luxuriously
along the banks of the
The reception area is framed by a classic courtyard featuring
a fountain and exuding the aroma of herbs from the interior gardens. Overhead,
wooden fans cool the charged atmosphere. The resort's deep, shaded verandah,

Only footsteps from the
The main hotel consists of thatched buildings that house the classic lounge, bar
and restaurant. As you enter the reception area you notice a pretty courtyard on
each side, with a fountain and fragrant herb gardens. This is also where the
curio shops are situated.
There is a great library within the main building, for those who’d like to learn
about the local history, wildlife and culture. We also loved the original
paintings of Livingstone and his great travels that are visible all over the
hotel. These definitely set the scene and remind you of where you really are. It
felt a bit extraordinary to imagine that we were in the same area as this
adventurer had been all those year ago.
The hotel is well known for its good service, fine dining, comfort and
hospitality and has already been named as one of the ‘Leading Hotels in the
World’.
The Royal Livingstone is also quite family friendly and has a ‘happy hippo club’
to entertain the kids while mom and dad enjoy the various activities and
relaxation options that are offered at the hotel and its surrounding area.
There are lots of dining venues available ranging from the dining room, the
beautiful old-fashioned a-la-carte restaurant, the sundeck, the poolside bar
(snacks), your private veranda (for a romantic candlelight dinner) and finally -
your room (the hotel offers 24 hour room service). We thought that the daily
butler service from 7am to 11pm was really great. He’ll take care of your room
service, valet, laundry and golf cart transport. He’ll even have your shoes
polished!
If its pampering you’re after, this is the place to be. Not only is there a
hairstylist on the premises to ensure you look your best, but you can have a
manicure and pedicure in your room! You can also choose to have a massage in
your room or alternatively at their beautiful private massage gazebo near the
pool, overlooking the river.
This is truly a haven of luxury in the heart of the Victoria Falls region and it
isn’t difficult to see why the hotel is called the ‘Royal’ Livingstone. Its
attention to detail, great service and wonderful facilities easily makes it one
of the best in Zambia.
The Royal Livingstone hotel is a 5 star luxury facility with
173 rooms. There are four different room types ranging from standard twin,
standard king, standard suite and presidential suites. Of these 118 have twin
beds, and 49 king size beds. The latter have their own private verandas with
breathtaking views of the Zambezi and the edge of the Victoria Falls. These
rooms are situated in two-storey villas positioned along the river banks.
Three of the hotel’s suites have a separate lounge and bedroom while the
presidential suite offers an additional separate bedroom (optional). The beds
are large and very comfortable and covered in crisp white linen. We loved the
fresh flowers in the room.
All the rooms have air conditioners, satellite television, radios and videos.
Each room also has a mini bar, a small safe, a telephone with message and wake
up facilities and coffee and tea making station. Cots are also available to
families with babies.
Disabled guests will be pleased to know that the hotel has two
paraplegic-friendly rooms with twin beds. These are fitted with railings in the
bathrooms and are easily accessible by wheelchair.
The décor is colonially inspired yet not overwhelming and creates a welcome,
understated atmosphere of comfort and style. The bathrooms are all en-suite and
have large luxurious showers and Victorian baths.

Depart for
Cape Point via Simonstown in the
morning. Also visit Groot Constantia en route for a quick visist and wine
tasting. Retrun in the early afternoon for some leisure time. In the evening you
are transferred to a private venue for a South African Braai ( BBQ).
Our first stop is the seaside village of Muizenburg where you
will be able to take in the breathtaking views of False Bay. From here we follow
the incredibly scenic route along the False Bay coast through the fishing
villages like Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek on the way to Simonstown. Simonstown having
been a British naval town until as recent as 1957, normally comes as a pleasant
surprise to everyone visiting the Cape Peninsula as encountering such a ‘British
Town’ in Cape Town is unexpected.
At Simonstown we drive through the
navy village and then to Boulders beach to visit the penguin colony and the two
thousand Jackass Penguins dressed in their ‘tuxedos’ and doing the cute things
that penguins do. After the penguin colony we drive along the wonderfully scenic
mountain drive along False Bay to visit The Cape of Good Hope reserve. Cape
Point reserve is a magnificent floral wilderness
at the foot of Africa. For the nature loving person it is a truly fantastic
experience traversing such a unique floral kingdom. Who knows, if we are lucky
enough we might even see some antelope, ostrich or baboon. If we are really
fortunate we might even see the elusive Burchell Zebra that makes an appearance
on the reserve infrequently.
From the Cape Point reserve we head back to
Cape Town
