Itinerary

Day 1: Bogotá

Bienvenidos a Colombia! Transfer to the hotel (if you arrive early, free time to enjoy Bogotá’s cultural sites and nightlife).

Day 2: Bogotá – City tour – Guatavita

In the morning, departure with the guide for a City Tour of Bogotá. Discover the Monserrate Hill, where you can admire one of the best panoramic views of the city. Visit the Candelaria neighborhood to admire the colonial architecture while walking through the cobbled streets. Visit Bolivar Square and the Gold Museum. Then, visit an exotic fruit market or get an introduction to “tejo”, a traditional Colombian sport. Continue the tour to Guatavita, to spend a night near the place where the legend of El Dorado was born.

Day 3: Guatavita Lake – The Boyacá Bridge – Villa de Leyva

Relive the legend of El Dorado with a tour of the Guatavita Lake, sacred place of the Muiscas. Departure to Villa de Leyva.

Stop at the Boyacá Bridge, a monument declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, that commemorates the victory of the Battle of Boyacá in 1819, which triggered the independence of Colombia. Enjoy the green valleys and mountains on the way to Villa de Leyva.

Day 4: Villa de Leyva – Terracota House – Archaeological Site of Monquirá – Ráquira – Villa de Leyva

Visit to Villa de Leyva: religious, historical and cultural treasure, known for its picturesque beauty and for having one of the largest squares in America. Tour on the cobbled streets of the colonial city.

Visit of Casa Terracota, an original house built by a Colombian architect, who promotes an alternative and harmonious lifestyle.

Then, travel through time and visit the "Infiernito” or the “Hell", a pre-Columbian archeoastronomic site, composed of menhirs (vertical stones) and burial mounds, since this site was used for spiritual rites of purification.

In Ráquira, colorful municipality whose name means "City of the Vessels" in the Chibcha language, participate in the creation of a piece of pottery, together with a craftsman and experience the daily life of this magical village. Finally, head for Villa de Leyva.

Day 5: Villa de Leyva – Gachantiva - Paipa

Departure to Gachantiva to do hiking and be connected with nature. Between waterfalls (about 12 meters high) and forest, enjoy incredible views of Boyacá’s countryside. Then, walk to the Colorado Lake, visit the town and head for Paipa.

In the afternoon, relax and take the most of the well-being provided by the thermal waters of Paipa.

Day 6: Paipa – Nobsa –Tópaga – Mongui – Tibasosa – Pantano de Vargas – Paipa

Visit the charming villages of Boyacá, different historical sites that mix the Gothic, Elizabethan, Romantic, Mudejar and Baroque styles. In Nobsa, admire woolen fabrics like the traditional "ruana" that protects from the cold that is sometimes felt in this Andean region and other accessories made by the inhabitants. In Mongui, considered one of the most beautiful villages of Boyacá, visit a soccer ball factory and learn to make your own one. In Tibasosa, taste the delicious fruit called "Feijoa", protagonist of the annual Festival of Tibasosa. Stop at the monument of the Battle of Pantano de Vargas, an important event in the process of the independence of the country. Return to Paipa.

Day 7: Paipa – Bogotá Airport

Departure to Bogotá in the morning to take the international flight to your country or a domestic flight to enjoy the atmosphere and the beaches of the Caribbean Sea.

Post-Trip Extension 1: Cartagena

In the morning, departure to Bogotá to take a domestic flight and enjoy the atmosphere and beaches of the Caribbean Sea. Enjoy the free afternoon to know the "heroic city” at your pace. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this city founded in 1533 is famous for the charm of its colonial mixed with republican and modern architecture.

Day 8: Cartagena - Mangroves –Cartagena

Discover the "other Cartagena", beyond the colonial walled city and the traditional tourist route. Have a boat trip through the mangroves aboard a traditional canoe and learn about the fauna and flora of this ecosystem. Have lunch on its beaches and take a relaxing sea bath before going back to the city.

Day 9: Cartagena – Free day

Optional: Rosario Islands

As an option, outing to the Rosario Islands, a small archipelago formed by some 28 islands and have a day excursion at a hotel located in the “Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo National Natural Park”. Enjoy a private beach and the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. Return to Cartagena in the afternoon.

Day 10: Cartagena – Departure

Transfer to Cartagena Airport to take your international flight or a connection to Bogotá for your international flight.

Post-Trip Extension 2:

Santa Marta - Cartagena

Day 7: Paipa – Bogotá Airport – Santa Marta

In the morning, departure to Bogotá to take a domestic flight and enjoy the atmosphere and beaches of the Caribbean Sea.

Day 8: Santa Marta – Tayrona National Natural Park – Santa Marta

Departure to Tayrona National Park, emblematic natural resource of the Colombian Caribbean inhabited by the indigenous communities: Koguis, Snukus and Ijucus, descendants of the Tayronas. Stop at the “7 waves” viewpoint, spectacular scenery of an indescribable beauty. Continue to Neguanje to board a boat to the earthly paradise of Playa Cristal, enjoy the white sands, the crystalline waters, the colorful fish and corals that contrast with the emerald green of the Sierra Nevada mountains that surround this beautiful place. Return to Santa Marta.

Day 9: Santa Marta – Don Diego River – Taironaka – Santa Marta

Enjoy the refreshing waters of the Quebrada Valencia then discover Taironaka, an archeological site and an ancient Tairona city. Learn how did the Tayronas live a thousand years ago. Discover its terraces, stairs, aqueducts and ceremonial house. Then, have the possibility to follow the river trip doing kayaking or tubing. Return to Santa Marta.

Day 10: Santa Marta – Cartagena
